Born in 1960 to an unwed mother, Debra Ann Elliott was adopted when she was four months old by family members. She grew up with the sense of not belonging. That is what led her to express herself in written words. She is happily married with four grown children and one grandson and currently resides in Birmingham, AL.
We all go through life looking through the rearview mirror at our past and the wrong turn's that have been made.
Life Through the Rearview Mirror is a reflection of her life. This book is about the pain, the joy that we all go through in life and how we all tend to look back at what if's.
This book is dedicated to my family, with whom I could not have written my first collection of poetry. Also, I want to thank my online group friends for their support.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to give you an idea of the type of poems in my book. Most of the poems deal with life issues. The poem I have posted from my newly released poetry book "Life Through the Rearview Mirror" is a poem about abortion.
This poem is based on actual events that took place in my life in 1977 when I was 16. I wrote this poem to help myself and others. It's a memory that has been seered into my memory . This is one of those poems that reflects the title of my book.

Here is the poem:
Memories of November 4th, 1977
They say time heals all wounds and you must not live in the past.I still remember the day, November 4th, 1977,
a memory that will continue to last.A day I can never forget,
one that I have a lot of regret.
A young girl, only sixteen,
on that November day.I saw things I should not have seen,
cold metal where I lay…
On that November day
many years ago,
a baby taken from my womb
memories of regret and woe,
my body an empty tomb.
November 4th, 1977,
a day I lost a child unknown.a baby girl or boy,
from my body gone.no tears I cry of joy,
that November day……
